ArcExplorer Java Edition for Education (AEJEE)

While AEJEE is no longer supported by Esri, it still serves a valuable need for schools using computers or networks that are more mature or limited in capacity.  Installation and use notes for Macintosh and Windows are below.  Please read carefully and use the software at your "own risk", as-is.

Macintosh:

  • Requirements: 100 MB hard drive space, Internet connection; recommend G4 or faster processor and more than 64 MB RAM
  • AEJEE for Macintosh can work on PowerPC-based Macs without issue.
  • AEJEE can be installed effectively on Intel-based machines only up thru MacOS 10.6 which permits an emulation. Success with virtual machines or emulators is not guaranteed.
  • AEJEE was last updated in 2007, so it is not designed to use recent upgrades to online services. Since most services available in 2007 have since been retired, it is best to use AEJEE as a stand-alone, offline package.

 Windows:

  • Requirements:  100 MB hard drive space, Internet connection; recommend Pentium III or faster processor and more than 64 MB RAM
  • AEJEE for Windows can be installed effectively on Windows XP without issue.
  • AEJEE can be installed effectively on Windows 7 or 8 via a special process: Right-click the installer file (install.exe) and choose "Properties", then "Compatibility", and then "Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 3)". This will run the installer (only) in the mode necessary to be successful. Run the installer, reboot after installation, and then test.
