In this lesson, you will examine the spatial, or geographic, characteristics of Schistosomiasis japonicum in the Philippines, a chronic disease affecting millions of people throughout the world and in the Philippines. You will use a GIS to conduct your analysis. This data is to be used for educational purposes only within a geotechnology-based lesson, not for research purposes. Your mission: Say that the World Health Organization (WHO) has hired you to conduct a spatial analysis of schistosomiasis in the Philippines. The WHO is concerned and needs a complete assessment because schistosomiasis affects 200 million people in 74 countries, and is a major public health challenge in the Philippines.
