This lesson is a follow-up to a unit on the Oregon Trail suitable for fifth and sixth graders. It includes wonderful old maps and photographs from the Library of Congress. Students use the maps to follow the trail from Westport, Missouri to Fort Walla Walla, Washington, and write a journal about experiences on the journey. This activity was created by Melinda Champlain in Scott Anderson's GIS in the K-12 Classroom course at SUNY Cortland. Unzip the Oregon Trail file directly into the c drive. Teacher Guide and Student Guide are included in Microsoft Word.
