Description:

This activity uses ArcGIS Online, a Web-based Geographic Information System (GIS) (www.arcgis.com) as a tool for analyzing the extreme high and low temperatures of the USA from a spatial perspective. The temperatures analyzed are the daily extreme high and low temperatures for January and July 2011 for the USA. Therefore, at least 1 high temperature and 1 low temperature is mapped for each day in each of those 2 months. The resulting patterns are fascinating and make for excellent teaching points about altitude, latitude, proximity to coastlines, local weather, continental climate, and much more.
