Explore Africa with these 10 lessons built on the National Geographic MapMachine, powered by ESRI. These lessons invite students to think spatially and use web-based GIS to investigate whether, where, and why it snows in Africa, to cruise along the Equator and Prime Meridian, to examine the doorways of Africa (Gibraltar, Djibouti, Egypt), to compare the islands of Africa, to study the ecoregions of Africa, Egypt and the Nile, fires in Africa, Africa's Great Lakes, seasons, and to recommend a place to live for two of their friends who want to move to Africa. The lessons also illustrate how to use other sites on Internet for geographic research.
