What would a 1 day class syllabus for earth science, mining, and petroleum professionals look like? This syllabus offers one approach. It uses a variety of problems, scales, and themes in a problem-based learning environment, ranging from collecting data in the field, examining plate tectonics, studying oil and gas distribution in Colorado, analyzing Pierre Shale in Golden Colorado, and studying a mining area in Canada. Technologies used include smartphones, GPS receivers, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Desktop (2D and 3D environments). Individual lessons in this syllabus are also on ArcLessons.
