In this activity, students will use a variety of spatial functions within a GIS to determine the potential impact of coal mining and mercury hazards on Wilderness Areas in Colorado USA. This activity includes accessing spatial data from the US National Atlas, extracting the data, clipping the data to Colorado, and using a database from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to make an informed impact assessment.
