Community Web Mapping Tools

ESRI's ArcGIS Online (AGO) is a set of web-based maps (or map services) and analytic tools (or geoprocessing services) for ArcGIS users. At the ESRI Education Community, we use this powerful set of tools to bring GIS to school curriculum.

Find Your Latitude-Longitude with this AGO Geocoder Latitude-Longitude Finder

This geocoder allows you to find a latitude-longitude by dragging the map to a selected location.

The tool also provides address finding for the USA, Canada, and much of Europe. A world place name finder is also available.

Use this tool to support a wide range of curricular activities from locating world events in social studies, viewing biological or Earth science sampling events, or viewing locations referenced in your current Language Arts reading.

Sketch-A-Map

Sketch-A-Map is an AGO web map that allows you to draw shapes on top of a map. Pick from several base maps and any geographic extent and begin drawing points, lines, polygons and more. You can then save the map to an image file (JPG) or print it!

Sketch-A-Map is a simple tool for rapid placement of markers across your map. For history teachers, it works well to show battles. Science teachers can show outdoor study areas.

Draw on your map to illustrate a concept and then save or print it.
