Second annual "train the trainer" institute at ESRI

The 2010 ESRI T3G Institute has the dual mission of helping educators use GIS in their own educational program and, more important, building their capacity to help other educators do the same. Participants will
  • discuss best practices and successful approaches for teaching GIS in the classroom.
  • expand GIS software skills through a variety of hands-on lessons and practice sessions.
  • learn about the latest ESRI software and industry trends directly from GIS experts.
  • share ideas and network with other participants.

Who should apply?

Grade 5-12 teachers, college or university instructors, and youth/community group leaders who have already used GIS in their instruction, want to help others teach with GIS, and believe that using maps as analytical tools can help youth, their communities, and the planet. Applicants must live and work in the United States.

Costs

There is no registration fee. Six nights' lodging (Sunday night through Friday night) in a double-occupancy hotel room will be provided. The hotel is excellent and just a short stroll from ESRI and the training center. Participants are responsible for meals and travel to/from Redlands.

Applying for the 2010 ESRI T3G Institute

  • This institute requires skills in GIS, computer, and teaching, already in place in advance. This detailed list of relevant skills [.PDF] illustrates what educators may need to rely on to help other educators take full advantage of the powers of GIS.
  • The institute application [.zip] is challenging. Plan to spend 6-8 hours preparing your complete application package.
  • Your completed application package will contain several computer files that you create, including an ArcGIS map document created using the application GIS data [6 MB .zip].

Application Deadline

  • Completed applications must be received by 6pm Pacific Time, November 30, 2009.
  • Institute invitations will be sent by December 18, 2009.
