Tom joined the ESRI Education Team in 2006 as the Internet Development Manager for the Education Industry and works from the Kansas City satellite office. Tom primarily manages the development of the ESRI Education Community at edcommunity.esri.com and helps drive educational research with/about GIS. Tom also supports teacher education initiatives and other educational partnerships.
Prior to joining ESRI, Tom spent the previous ten years at the University of Kansas where he held a many research, technical, and teaching roles. In his final position, he was an Assistant Research Professor in the Center for Research on Learning in the School of Education. Tom was also the Project Coordinator and Co-PI for the NSF-funded Extending Scientific Inquiry through Collaborative GIS project. He completed a Ph.D. in educational technology in 2002 with a dissertation entitled, “The effects of G.I.S. on students’ attitudes, self-efficacy, and achievement in middle school science classrooms”.
